The SALT Experience: Dermaplane Facial

Ever wondered what getting a dermaplane facial looked like? I've received these facials before at other places throughout the Twin Cities, but I wanted to see what SALT had to offer over others.

My takeaway? SALT's is truly incomparable.

Instead of a quick, 45-minute facial targeting my skin concerns, SALT’s facial was a true full-body experience. I was able to relax, take it all in, and fully immerse myself in the experience with no interruptions.

In this blog, I’m taking you through my full dermaplane experience.

I arrived for my appointment promptly at 10:45 a.m. and was instructed to enter through the spa entrance. Once I arrived inside, I turned to the door on the left and rang the doorbell to let Irina know I was here. After a few seconds, she opened the door and welcomed me in with her mask on. After instructing me to take off my coat and shoes, she gave me the spa’s sandals to put on and was holding a warm hand towel on a tray for me after I sanitized my hands.

I then followed Irina back to the changing room, where I placed my bag and changed out of my street clothes into a soft, comfy robe waiting for me. At this point, I was truly impressed; I felt like I was receiving a full spa day, something I was not expecting out of the experience, but was more than happy to receive.

After changing, I expected to go straight to the room to receive my facial, but I was taken by surprise when I found a foot bath waiting for me in the lounge. Irina told me to sit down and relax as she went to go get some hot water for the foot soak. I thought this was just going to involve a facial, but instead, I was receiving a full-body experience.

Let me just say, the foot soak felt amazing. 10 minutes of a little facial for my feet, too, with the salt and mask exfoliating in between my toes, and it was much needed.

After washing off my feet, drying them, and allowing me time to put my sandals back on, Irina brought me to the spa room. She gave me time to get situated on the table—at this point, I truly felt as if I was receiving a massage instead of a facial. After a couple of minutes, Irina knocked on the door and stepped back into the room, and from here, the facial officially began. I was so relaxed during the experience, I had to talk with Irina after about what she did step-by-step throughout the service.

To start, Irina signaled the start of the session with the sounds of the Chakra bowl echoing throughout the room among the calming sounds being played in the background. She then started to cleanse my face in massaging motions, then applying an exfoliating scrub.

After this, she placed a mask over my eyes, and a hot steam machine was placed above my face to open up my pores. This is when Irina started to dermaplane—remove the peach fuzz with a thin blade. As she removed the peach fuzz from my face, she also did some extractions to get the gunk out of my pores, something that was much needed and I wanted to be done by a professional.

After getting rid of all of the peach fuzz and completing the extractions, Irina placed an enzyme mask over my cleansed face to resurface my skin and cleanse my pores even further. While the mask was drying, Irina went through a full massage on both arms and hands. At this point, I was completely relaxed and lost track of all time.

Once the mask dried, she cleansed it off of my face and applied a treatment mask. While this mask settled, Irina gave me an upper body massage, getting all of the tension out of my shoulders and neck. When I just thought the service was about to be complete, Irina gave me a full scalp massage with sunflower oil.

She then cleansed the treatment mask off of my face and applied moisturizer and lip balm, then signaling the end of the service with another calming ring of the Chakra bowl.

This was a total of a two-hour service. All in all, this was one of the best facials I had ever received. While I was mainly there to address my skin concerns, I was able to relax, get away from everyday life, and fully immerse myself in the experience with no interruptions whatsoever, something everyone needs every once in a while. If you’re looking for a quick-fix, facial, SALT is not the place for you. But if you are looking to fully connect with the experience and relax as well, this is the only place in the cities to offer it.
