Q: First thing’s first: Why extensions?

A: Who doesn’t want more hair? Many people get extensions for the length; to create a mermaid look. We love extensions for this look and we also love extensions for people that have thin or thinning hair. Extensions create a fuller, more voluminous look. Extensions also give you a greater range of styling ability. More hair also gives many people more confidence. It’s a great investment all the way around.

Q: What type of extensions do you offer?

A: Clients will have two options: tape-in extensions or hand-tied extensions.

Each option offers the same amount of hair. During the consultation, we will determine which type of extension is best for your lifestyle and styling habits.

Hand-tied extensions are more for the craftsmanship that goes into the strands being tied to the left one by one. Handtied is worth the time and cost for a flat seamless install without the worry of potential damage to the hair. They will be clipped to beads for stability while being sewn on with a thin, but durable, nylon thread. This way, hair can be worn up or down.

On the plus side. tape-in extensions are quicker and the flattest option around. With tape-ins, your natural hair is sandwiched in between two panels of hair with “tape" and locked in. Both installations will be followed by cutting the extensions to blend with your natural hair.

We’ve always had tape-in extensions. However, we wanted more diversity and higher quality options, so we invested in hand-tied extension options—something that matches our exclusive quality at SALT.

After months of testing and researching extension lines, Hair Culture and Covet and Mane are the lines that stood out to us the most. Both brands are quality hair with different textures and color ranges to accommodate everyone.

Covet and Mane is your go-to for rooted blondes and highlights with a little bit of texture for wavy or curly lengths.

Hair Culture, on the other hand, gives you long silky lengths in solid colors of brunette to platinum blonde. This brand can also be mixed to give a highlight effect or custom rooted look for a total transformation.

Both brands offer the highest quality in double drawn extensions, meaning, hair is the same thickness throughout from top to bottom

Q: So, what does the process look like for getting extensions?

A: Our guest’s hair goals for this customized service is our priority. Therefore, we reserve 30 minutes for each consultation. During our consultation, we will gather all of the information needed to execute the best type of extension—hand-tied or tape-in, color, length, and texture—for your desired look.

After our consultation, and once we’ve determined your type, desired length, color, and texture, we will schedule your install appointment. This appointment will be at least 5 days after our consultation. If needed, we will also book your coloring, highlight, or needed haircut during the scheduled install day.

The install will take 2-3 hours for hand-tied and 1-2 hours for tape-in. You should expect to add an additional 2 hours to color your hair after install, if necessary. Hand-tied extensions will be colored after install, whereas the tape-in extensions will be colored before install. Coloring your extensions will be carefully customized; the cost is not included in the prices of the install.

If your natural hair needs a haircut, this will happen before the install of both extensions. This will also be an additional charge.

The application process of both hand-tied extensions and tape-in extensions is similar. With both practices, we carefully determine the areas to install and section your hair for the best results.

Q: How long do they last?

A: Hair of this quality lasts between 8-16 months. The maintenance of extensions is low.

With hand-tied extensions, moving the beads up the new hair growth will need to be done every 4 weeks. Your first move up will be complimentary. After your first move up, there is a cost associated going forward.

With tape-ins, your extensions are removed, washed, and reinstalled after 6-8 weeks.
